Energy Efficiency & Conservation
San Isabel Electric Association, Inc. supports renewable energy as part of a balanced approach in meeting the rising demand for energy by our members. Ultimately, it is the choice of the member/consumer to make behavioral changes so they can use electricity more efficiently, or conserve in the usage of electricity. As a member owned electric cooperative, San Isabel believes it is our responsibility to educate our members in ways to become more energy efficient at home and in their business operations. This will benefit them not only in this challenging economy, but will also help to manage the supply of electricity.
San Isabel Electric offers a variety of programs and services to assist members in making their energy efficient/conservation choices.
- Alternative Renewable Programs and Energy Efficiency Programs available for San Isabel Electric Members:
- Green Power Program - For an additional premium of $1.25 per month per 100 kwh block you can purchase your electricity from a renewable source.
- Net-Metering – Harnessing the energy of the environment and the sun, San Isabel Electric offers net metering to its members. Call 719-547-2160 or toll free at 1-800-279-7432 and speak with a net-metering expert today about what program opportunities will work best for you.
o You can save as much as half the cost of traditional heating with Electric Thermal Storage technology. ETS works by taking advantage of San Isabel Electric’s off peak electric rates. ETS works when electric rates are lower by storing heat so it’s ready when you need it. And because it works during off peak hours, you’re conserving energy too. It’s the perfect alternative to wood burning stoves, electric baseboards and other traditional heating methods.
- For many years, San Isabel has offered a lease program using photo voltaic cells mounted on trailers for remote stock pumps. This service has assisted ranchers and other members with remote access needs where a using traditional power line is not feasible.
- Educational Programs and Information:
- Kids Super Energy Saver Program with CFL Charlie
- This program educates third graders at elementary schools in the SIEA service area on lessons in energy, electrical safety, energy savings and renewables. SIEA is providing the schools all the teaching materials they need to educate children about energy.
- Get Charged! Program:
- This educational program benefits 8th grade students in the SIEA service area by providing basic information about electricity, how it works and how to use it. The “learning kit in a box contains a variety of educational tools – including videos, CD-ROMs, a Teachers Resource Guide, student activity books and other collateral materials – all at no charge – to augment the existing curriculum. The Get Charged! Program gives students a real-world understanding of power, the purpose of electricity, and the important role electric cooperatives play in delivering the “juice” that runs their everyday lives.
- Colorado Country Life Magazine:
- This complementary magazine is mailed monthly to cooperative members around the state. It highlights columns, articles, feature stories and other interesting information about the issues facing the electric cooperative industry and the people who benefit from the service. San Isabel members can also read specifically about their electric cooperative through the “SIEA News” pages.

- Our website features information on energy efficiency ideas and conservation as well as information about the various products and services available to SIEA members.
- 101 Low Cost/No Cost Brochures on Energy Efficiency are complimentary and available at SIEA area business offices for our members.
