The San Isabel Electric family has those who have been impacted by the fire in our thoughts and prayers. We are working closely with incident command, making repairs to the grid, and are restoring your power as quickly and as safely as possible.

Meters restored: 2,020
Current focus:
  • Our team has patrolled most affected areas and have a much clearer understanding of power restoration challenges. Restoration times range from days to weeks to months. All restoration times are estimates only, and may be longer or shorter. 
  • In areas where incident command has given us access, we are:
    • Rebuilding main lines that will restore power to the most meters first.
    • Main line repairs in most areas could take about two weeks.
    • After main lines have been rebuilt, we will focus on smaller sections of line that serve fewer meters, then on lines that feed isolated individual meters.
    • It may be several weeks before crews can begin making repairs to areas with only a few meters or individual meters.

Why can fire-related power outages last several weeks?

1. When a wildfire ignites, emergency managers direct electric utilities to de-energize electric equipment to keep firefighters and residents safe.

2. That equipment may feed electricity to places both inside and outside active fire areas and evacuation zones. Members, who live miles from an evacuation zone may still be impacted by fire-related outages for extended periods of time because the equipment that feeds their home is in a danger zone.

3. Authorities determine when it’s safe for lineworkers to energize areas not affected by fire. They also give authorization to lineworkers to enter the fire perimeter and inspect equipment and make repairs. This process can take several days, weeks, or in heavily damaged areas, months!

4. Once repairs are complete in areas damaged by fire, emergency managers determine when residents can return to their homes and when lines can be re-energized.

Rebuilding Process

If your property has been damaged or destroyed by the fire, please know that San Isabel Electric’s employees are here to answer any questions you may have about the rebuilding process. If you choose to rebuild in the same location as your previous structure(s), there will be no cost to re-establish electric service. If you decide to rebuild in a different location on your property, additional costs may be required to extend electric service to the new site.
