Pueblo County 4-H and FFA members are preparing their animals for the agriculture industry’s Super Bowl, the annual Showcase Sale. Many of these kids have raised their animals since birth, feeding them, grooming them, providing medicine to keep them healthy, in near 100-degree heat, and they are looking for your support.
Pool-bids are a frequently overlooked method for those who do not want to buy an animal but want to show support. The pool-bid is compiled with the final bid after the auction is over. The pool-bid is directed to the entire group of exhibitors. Supporters of the Pueblo County Showcase Sale are listed on the fair’s website until the following year.
This year, local electric cooperative San Isabel Electric and cooperative power supplier Basin Electric Power Cooperative are donating a combined $10,000 in pool-bids.
The co-ops are extending the same generosity to the Huerfano County and the Las Animas County Fairs.
Pueblo County Fair Board President Shane Roberts believes the showcase sale is a fantastic opportunity for Pueblo youth to demonstrate their talents and learn important skills such as leadership, responsibility, and teamwork.
“The fair and showcase sale plays a pivotal role in youth development, offering a supportive environment for young people to learn, grow, and thrive,” Roberts said.
“There are a lot of expenses when it comes to raising goats. Feeding them, keeping shavings in their pens, medicine, it’s a lot, especially for a family with several kids raising animals for the fair,” sophomore Jace Singleton said, who is showing a goat in the fair this year.
To contribute a pool-bid, please mail a check made out to the Pueblo County Showcase Sale and send it to 701 Court Street, Suite C, Pueblo, CO 81003. Checks need to be received by August 1. If a donor wants to remain anonymous, they must contact the Pueblo County CSU-Extension Office. The extension office can be reached for questions or for more information by phone at (719) 583-6566.
The Pueblo County Fair runs through July 21, and the Showcase Sale occurs Saturday, July 20, at the Southwest Motors Event Center. Visit https://www.pueblocountyfair.com/ for specific schedule details including dates, times, and events.
