For immediate release: 5:00 p.m. – Thursday, February 7, 2019  Due to increased demands for cheap and efficient energy, San Isabel Electric is eyeing the developing electric car market.

“Helping members get the gasoline equivalent of 100 plus miles per gallon aligns perfectly with our goal as an electric cooperative to save our members time, energy and money and in the long run, it could help keep rates steady,” San Isabel Electric General Manager Reg Rudolph said.

To encourage members to convert from gas to electric vehicles the co-op is offering a discounted rate, called the time-of-day rate, to electric vehicle owners who charge their vehicle(s) at home. The co-op is also offering up to an additional $5,000 in electric vehicle related rebates, on top of the $12,500 in tax credits already available to Colorado residents.

The time-of-day rate, also known as time-of-use or TOU, is a relatively simple concept. Rates are lower when demand for electricity is low, but costs increase when demand is high.

Residential San Isabel Electric member-owners enrolled in the time-of-day rate can pay an average of $0.59 and $1.49 per equivalent gallon of gas if enrolled in the time-of-day program, depending on the time of day when they charge their vehicle(s).

Members can find more information about the time-of-day rate at siea.com/TimeOfDay or they can apply for the special rate by calling San Isabel Electric at 1-800-279-7432 during business hours, Monday through Friday.

San Isabel Electric is also offering a $500 rebate for the purchase of an eligible electric vehicle and up to a $1,000 rebate for the purchase and installation of eligible electric vehicle charging stations. The co-op has also partnered with Nissan to offer a $3,500 rebate to any San Isabel Electric member who purchases a new Nissan Leaf from a participating dealer before April 1, 2019.

Information about how to claim San Isabel Electric’s rebates, the Nissan rebate and the $12,500 in tax incentives are available on the co-op’s website, siea.com/EVeducation.
