San Isabel Electric is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2025-2026 academic year.

San Isabel Electric is continuing to expand their annual scholarship program.

This year, the utility is offering a brand-new scholarship to its’ existing scholarships program. The Brendon Beach Memorial Scholarship was created to honor former line worker Brendon Beach, who died in an off-duty car accident in March of this year. The new scholarship will be awarded to an applicant pursuing a career in linework and will cover all tuition and fees related to line school, excluding lodging and travel.

San Isabel Electric will continue to offer $1,000 scholarships along with the chance for top entries to compete for a $4,000 Powered-Up scholarship.

A student studying to be a welder won the Powered-Up scholarship in 2024 and is now studying at Trinidad State College. It was the first time the cooperative awarded the top honors to a student pursuing a vocational career.

“We have scholarships for just about everyone. It’s our hope that our scholarships will help our youngest members achieve their dreams, whether it’s learning a trade, getting a degree, or furthering their education to provide for themselves or a family someday,” San Isabel Electric Board President Jacque Sikes said.

To qualify, students must have a parent or guardian who buys electricity from SIEA, at least a 2.0 GPA, and plans to enroll in a college degree program, vocational, occupational, or a certificate program. Scholarships are also available for students who have been away from school for at least two years.
