In 2017, San Isabel Electric made an offer to purchase Black Hills Energy. Our analysis showed that a larger electric cooperative could bring greater value which equals lower rates to our members. Although our efforts to grow San Isabel Electric though acquisition weren’t successful, we are continually looking for solutions that bring greater opportunity to our members and the region. There’s no one model for how Southern Colorado’s communities should use energy. There’s no one size fits all solution for how to provide it. The windy community of Huerfano County’s needs are different than the needs of hot and sunny Pueblo West’s, or of Beulah’s cold winters – that’s why a cooperative model makes sense for Southern Colorado.
