Communities thrive and grow through mutual participation and partnership.  The Spanish Peaks Business Alliance in Huerfano County and San Isabel Electric share this belief as one of their top values.

For the Spanish Peaks Business Alliance, this value is portrayed initially in their mission statement: to support and develop businesses of the Spanish Peaks region through networking, education, promotion, and advocacy. Since 2018, the alliance has not only supported local businesses, but has encouraged these businesses to share ideas, share resources and motivate each other for mutual success.

One of the electric cooperatives top priorities is participating in the community to enhance its’ success. A large part of San Isabel Electric’s community engagement is portrayed through donations from its’ locally-elected board of directorsDonations allow San Isabel Electric to not only participate in community projects, but help sponsor, support, and promote businesses and organizations in the community.

San Isabel Electric and Basin Electric Power Cooperative made a combined $4,000 donation to the Spanish Peaks Business Alliance Holiday Giving Celebration fundraiser. This annual fundraiser is hosted to raise funds for projects for local nonprofits and to increase community involvementAny person or organization that donates can select specific projects to help fund. San Isabel Electric chose to donate toward La Veta Trails and the Fox Theater.

Funding for La Veta Trails will support the construction of a planned three-mile trail in the La Veta area. The development will include trailhead parking, riverfront open spaces, crosswalk, fencing, and a bike bridge over the Cuchara RiverOnce construction is completeresidents and visitors will be able to enjoy the outdoors while walking along the new trail.

Funding for the Fox Theater will support necessary repairs and updates to the building. The Fox Theater, built in 1917, continues to be the primary cultural art venue in the community and greater Spanish Peaks region. Enhancing the building will ensure that the building can continue to be used without having to worry about flooding, roof leaks, or electrical outages.

Through collaboration between soutern Colorado businesses, the Fox Theater and La Veta Trails are now one step closer to beginning and successfully completing projects that will benefit their community and those in the surrounding areas.
