Time is running out to apply for one of San Isabel Electric’s scholarships. Candidates must complete their applications online by 5 p.m. on February 15.
San Isabel Electric typically awards more than $30,000 in scholarship funds every year to local youth. The not-for-profit electric cooperative offers several different $1,000 scholarship opportunities for member-owners and their dependents.
Eligibility criteria:
- Minimum GPA of 2.0.
- Students should be planning to attend an accredited college and/or university, or an occupational training program lasting two years or less at an accredited vocational school, technical school, community college, or junior college during the 2024–2025 academic year.
- Scholarship applicants must have a parent or guardian who buys electricity from San Isabel Electric.
- The applicant’s primary address must be in Colorado.
- Eligible students must either be graduating from high school in the 2023-2024 academic year and planning to enroll in higher education the consecutive fall or have taken at least a two-year break in their educational journey and are planning to return to school in the fall of 2024.
The San Isabel Electric Board of Directors scores the applicants based on their resume, cover letter, letters of recommendation, their answer to a 300-word essay, as well as the grammar and punctuation of their overall application.
The co-op also invites the top-scoring applicants to compete for an additional $4,000 scholarship, called the Powered-Up Scholarship. San Isabel Electric donates $500 to the high school of the Powered-Up Scholarship recipient.
Students, or their parent or guardian, must buy electricity from San Isabel Electric to qualify for a scholarship. Applications, details about the different scholarship opportunities, and complete eligibility requirements are available online at siea.com/scholarships.
